Format Details
NCT STRUCTURE
The 2007 Fast Plastic National Championship format will be constructed
of Pool Play, followed by a single elimination Championship
Round.
32 TEAMS
32 teams will compete in the 2007 Fast Plastic National Championship.
8 POOLS OF 4 TEAMS
- 2 CROSSOVER GAMES
Teams will be sorted into eight different pools of four teams
each. Whenever possible, the four teams will be from four different
Fast Plastic regions to ensure each team plays its games outside
its home region. All teams will play 2 cross-over games with
their neighboring Pool. Click here for
cross-over matchups. Pool play games will be 5 innings.
GUARANTEED GAMES
All teams will be guaranteed 5 RR games as stated above.
ADVANCEMENT TO CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND
All teams with winning records will advance to the championship
round. Should there be 15 or fewer teams with winning records
we will take the top teams with losing records to round out
the field to 16. The championship round games will be 6 innings.
FIRST ROUND BYE'S
Because all teams with winning records advance, the exact number
of first round byes won't be determined until the end of the
round robin. Unless the number of teams in the championship
round is 16 or less, a minimum of 2 teams will receive a first
round bye. Teams should keep in mind that playing an extra round
might be the difference in winning or losing the National Championship.
Click
here for Bye grid.
CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
SEEDING
The championship round seeding process will consist of two groups.
Teams that have received a first round Bye and teams that must
play play in the first round.
TEAM SEEDINGS
1. win/loss record
2. head to head
3. lowest runs allowed
4. strength of schedule
5. run differential
6. ten-run-rule wins
7. ten-run-rule losses
POOL
PLAY
Teams will be separated into 8 pools of 4 teams. Pool Play games
will be 5 innings long and will adhere to the TOTAL BASES tie-breaker
system.
In an effort to allow teams to play new
opponents, all teams will be separated by region into SUPER
REGIONS. Super Regions will consist of regions which are geographically
closer. Please Note: The Super Regions will not change for any
reason.
SUPER REGION 1
Phoenix
Los Angeles
Northern California
San Diego
SUPER REGION 2
Florida
Georgia
Chicago
Utah
SUPER REGION 3
New England
New York City
New Jersey
Maryland
POOL DRAWINGS
Drawing for Pool Play will take place Friday night at the fields
either after or during the Skills Competition. If a member of
your team is unable to attend, the National Championship Tournament
Director will step in a draw. Eight numbered wiffleballs will
be placed in a container. Each team will determine its own pool
by drawing a wiffleball from the container. Once a team pulls
a ball, that ball will remain out until all teams from the Super
Region have pulled a ball. If a Super Region consists of more
than eight teams the numbered balls will be thrown back into
the container after Team Eight and prior to Team Nine.
- Order of Draw
The Super Region with the most teams will draw first. The region
within each Super Region with the most teams present will draw
first. And finally the team with the best Win-Loss record from
each region will draw first. Once all teams from a single Super
Region have drawn a number and been assigned to a Pool all the
balls will be tossed back into a container and the second Super
Region will then draw. This order will be continued until all
teams have been assigned a pool.
